A place has got to be really bad, if I’m going to bother panning it. Hope and Anchor was that bad. Disappointment and sorrow abound in today’s Gothamist column at:

  1. Hey, I live right next door to H&A!- in the white faux brick building.

I have eaten there less than 5 times, which is very few for some place that you’ve lived next door to for over a year. That place has such a die hard following that it was a relief to see your piece on the rude staff. My friends and I always wondered if it was us that they hated.

The burger with blue cheese can be ok, and the roast pork hoagie (roast pork with a slab of fried mozz, mayo, and pickled hot peppers) is actually tasty, but other than those two, nothing worth ordering. Agreed, the roast beef sandwich is awful. And a sandwich is a terrible thing to squander.

  2. Two things:
Seems to me you need to give the place a second chance.
Also seems quite obvious you have a very protective following.
