Hey, What’s Up There Fruitcake?

I just can’t get enough of Christmas. So the History Channel crew and I drove all the way up to La Tulipe Desserts in Mt. Kisco, NY to learn how to put a modern twist on the ancient fruitcake. Watch the hilarity that ensued here:

To watch the video in a larger format, wait until the commercial is done, and then click one of the little grey boxes at the lower right of the screen. It’ll super size the video the way a Famous Fat Dave tour will super size your gut.

  1. Dave! You were up here at La Tulipe, that is cool. Did you have any of their savory palmieres? I love all of those copper mixing bowls. Gotta book a tour with you one of these days.

  2. I didn’t get a chance to have any palmieres. Darn. What are they? And I loved those bowls too. They edited out a part where I carress them tenderly and insist on using them. I was really bummed that didn’t make the final cut.

  3. Darn editors! I’ll try to scoot down there maybe tomorrow and do some palmiere (palm leaf) recon for you. I haven’t been there in a while so I hope they still make them. The ones I had were parmesan; they also made black olive and I forget the third flavor. Much better than the sweet ones, but that is easy to say when you don’t have a sweet tooth.

  4. I enjoyed the cooking lesson on baking this fruitcake. Can you please print the recipe as I would like to make it next year.

    Thank you,

  5. Carmen,

I don’t have the recipe. I know those orange peels sat in rum for 21 days though. The place is called La Tulipe Dessert and it’s in Mt. Kisco, New York. It’s a really cool place: just a white frame house with a really nice kitchen in the back.
